Home | Caned bergère
Surprisingly durable and offering new levels of comfort, caning became widely used in English furniture in the early eighteenth century most commonly on the walnut high backed chairs of the period. Its popularity in the Regency was undimmed and it found its way into dining rooms and living rooms offering a wonderfully light and flexible contrast to the wood that surrounds it.
This hand woven cane backed bergère with cane sides has gently scrolling framework with reeded mouldings and typical sabre legs. A leather squab cushion is matched by leather arm pads and nailing detail.
